Long way down: Far way forward

This was a plien air painting I did in Horshoe Bend in Arizona. I just came back from hiking the Narrows and was ready for something more stationary. It was hot and I had no chair but I wanted to do at least one piece on this trip. I think the heat I experienced there led to me using very warm and faded colors which worked out well. Everytime I look at this painting I remember how hot it was.
